The CS2 player from noMERCY known as playN had a return date — 2029. The three-year disqualification for match-fixing that he had already received was nearing its end, and he planned to get back on the server.
Then photos with money and cars appeared on social media. After that, the commission replaced the three-year ban with a lifetime one. At the same time, as the publications indicate, it was not possible to prove a connection between this money and the cars and the fixed matches. The punishment was made harsher not as a result of a new investigation, but because of the public behavior of a person who had already been punished.
The length of a disqualification is a condition, not a guarantee
A fixed match is a game whose outcome, or part of its outcome, has been agreed in advance, usually for the sake of winning bets. For esports this is the gravest violation: the product consists of uncertainty, and the viewer pays with attention for the assurance that the winner is determined on the server.
playN's story shows an important detail. The length of a ban looks like a sentence with an end date, but in fact it is a decision of a disciplinary body, which it has the right to review. The player who planned to return in 2029 based his calculation on the assumption that three years means three years. The commission proceeded from something different: a return is possible as long as nothing suggests that the reasons for the sanction have stayed in the past.
The disputed part of the decision
The "punished for photos" version does not explain everything. It is not publicly known on what exact grounds the commission changed its verdict, and there is no information about an appeal in the sources, so
